  1. Tell me about the Chathams Islands

The Chathams are about 800 kilometres east of Christchurch. Two of the 10 Islands are inhabited. Being out in the Pacific the Islands are exposed, yet still have a temperate climate. Rainfall is around 900 mm a year and temperatures vary between 15 and 24 degrees Celsius in summer (December to February) and 6 to 10 in winter. September through March are the best months to visit.

Time on the Chathams is 45 minutes ahead of mainland New Zealand, and Pitt Island, with 50 people, is the first inhabited land in the world to see the sunrise each day.
